Scripture Focus: Romans 12:2 (ESV)
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Elnora had always carried a quiet dream in her heart—one she barely dared to whisper aloud. Since high school, she’d imagined herself standing in front of others, speaking words that would make a difference. But each time the idea came up, so did the same thought: “I’m too shy. That’s just how I am.”
Can you relate?
We’ve all had those moments—where fear, past wounds, or labels we’ve adopted seem to write our stories for us. But God is in the business of rewriting stories. And He often begins with something small: a thought, a nudge, a new habit.
When Elnora finally shared her dream with a close friend, her friend offered a gentle but bold challenge: “Maybe you are shy. But what if you didn’t settle for that? What if you trusted God to help you grow?”
With that encouragement, Elnora began a small but powerful habit. She committed to doing one Facebook Live video each day for 30 days. Was it uncomfortable? Absolutely. But as the days passed, something started to shift. Her voice grew stronger. Her courage deepened. And most importantly—she began to see herself the way God sees her: not stuck in a label, but becoming more of who He designed her to be.
The world often tells us that who we are today is all we’ll ever be. But Romans 12:2 reminds us that transformation is possible—not through our own striving, but through the renewing of our minds. That kind of renewal doesn’t happen overnight. It happens moment by moment, choice by choice, habit by habit.
God isn’t asking us to become someone we’re not. He’s inviting us to become who we truly are in Him. And sometimes, that journey begins with one small step outside our comfort zone.
Like Elnora, you might be clinging to a version of yourself that feels safe but limiting. Maybe it’s, “I’m not a leader,” or “I’m not disciplined,” or “I could never do that.” But what if those aren’t facts? What if they’re just stories fear has told you—and God is offering a new narrative?
When Elnora began posting those videos, she wasn’t just building confidence. She was also building community. One of the people she connected with was Sabrina, a woman from another country who had a secret desire to write fiction books.
But fear had Sabrina frozen. “What if I’m no good?” she wondered. “What if I try and fail?”
Fear is a loud voice, isn’t it? But so often, the best way to silence it is with action—especially consistent, God-led action.
Elnora encouraged Sabrina to start small: just one page a day. That tiny habit gave Sabrina a way forward. She wrote through the doubts, edited her draft, and eventually submitted it to a publisher. Today, she’s on her way to becoming a published author.
That’s the beautiful thing about habits. They give us a structure—a rhythm—to lean on when emotions are shaky and confidence wavers. When you commit to showing up, even in small ways, you’re choosing obedience over fear. You’re building spiritual muscle. You’re letting God use the little things to move mountains.
Mirelle’s story is another reminder of what God can do with our faithfulness—especially in our limitations.
Mirelle was a single mom with very little money and not-so-great credit. She had a dream to start an online business, but it felt completely out of reach. Still, she sensed God prompting her to start saving. So, she did—just $1 a week.
It didn’t feel like much. It wasn’t glamorous or impressive. But it was obedient.
And over time, that tiny habit led to creative ideas and bigger steps. Within a few months, Mirelle had saved enough to purchase a used computer. That small beginning opened the door for the dream God had planted in her.
Don’t underestimate the power of small beginnings. Zechariah 4:10 reminds us, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” (NLT)
God isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for women who will say yes—yes to the prompting, yes to the process, yes to the slow, faithful work of becoming.
Habits aren’t just about productivity. They’re about priority. They reveal what matters to us and shape the kind of life we’re building. They help us align our days with the life God designed for us.
Think about it:
A habit of prayer re-centers your soul.
A habit of Scripture reading renews your mind.
A habit of rest reminds you that your worth isn’t in your work.
A habit of generosity loosens the grip of fear over finances.
A habit of silence helps you hear God’s whisper.
You don’t need a massive overhaul. You need small, Spirit-led shifts—done consistently.
The goal isn’t to chase a Pinterest-perfect life. It’s to live a life you love because it’s rooted in God’s truth. A life where peace isn’t a goal—it’s a fruit. Where joy isn’t fleeting—it’s your strength. Where wholeness doesn’t come from hustle—but from abiding in Christ.
So, let me ask you:
What’s one habit God might be nudging you to begin?
What’s one belief about yourself that He’s asking you to challenge?
Maybe it’s writing. Maybe it’s waking up 15 minutes earlier to pray. Maybe it’s starting a gratitude journal or taking a quiet walk without your phone. Whatever it is, remember this:
You’re not doing it to earn God’s approval—you already have that in Christ.
You’re doing it to become who He created you to be.
You’re doing it because you trust that small steps in His direction lead to big transformation.
What small, God-honoring habit could I begin this week?
What identity-limiting belief is the Lord inviting me to surrender?
How can I make room for God to grow something new in my daily life?
Lord, I long to live a life that reflects Your goodness and grace. Help me let go of the lies I’ve believed about who I am. Give me the courage to start small and stay faithful. Transform me from the inside out as I walk with You. Use these habits to draw me closer to You—and to the woman You’ve created me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
